Munich East I Data Centre

München-Ost I

The “Munich East I” data centre is operated in connection with the Level(3) Communications gateways.

Facilities of the site:

  • Racks of the RITTAL premium manufacturer (TS-8 series)
  • Redundant BGP4 routing via the networks of Level(3) and other carriers
  • 2 power cables per rack
  • Cooling system designed according to the cold aisle/hot aisle principle

If a power outage should occur, the data centre is powered by 2 standby diesel generators and redundant UPS facilities. The access control system based on touchless smart cards and a biometric hand scanner guarantees a reliable identification of the maintenance staff.

A state-of-the-art video monitoring facility (CCTV) records all movements allowing us to conduct trace-back investigations.

The offices of the MIVITEC GmbH Company are located in an adjacent building enabling us to take immediately remedial action in the event of a problem.

The video shows a facility in the USA with the same features as the Munich based data centre. A film will soon be available.

Munich North Data Centre

München-Nord

The “Munich North” data centre of the MIVITEC GmbH Company is a premium data processing facility for business clients. Currently, there are 600 square metres of space available for data processing purposes. Further facilities on a surface of 600 square metres can be made available within a short period of time.

Network

The autonomous system (AS41412) of the MIVITEC GmbH Company provides redundant connections to the internet across the networks of different carriers. The dynamic routing via the transmission infrastructures of several carriers ensures the availability of the data centre facilities in the event of a failure of a fibre optic connection or the breakdown of a carrier system. The network has been laid out for high transmission capacities. Therefore, we are able to make 1 Gbit and 10 Gbit connections available within a few hours. Uplinks with a bandwidth of 100 Gbit can be set up within about one week.

For the routing we use the networks of the following carriers: TeliaSonera, Level(3) and KPN. Furthermore, we have a peering connection to the DECIX internet exchange hub in Frankfurt. As a member of RIPE, MIVITEC is a “Local Internet Registry” and therefore is authorised to assign IP addresses.

Electric Power Supply

The data centre is supplied with electric power via 2 private lines linked to the electricity distribution network operated by the “Stadtwerke München” Municipal Electric Utility. The incoming electric current is converted in two private on-site electrical substations. A nearby transformer station guarantees a high reliability of the power supply.

In the event of a power failure, the electric power supply is guaranteed by permanently operational standby diesel generators. This enables us to maintain the operations in the data centre even during longer power outages. Further UPS facilities for both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) step in until the generators operate at full capacity.

The racks housed in the data centre are supplied with electric power by at least 2 electrical circuits (A feed and B feed) that are fed via two distinct distribution boxes. All these precautions guarantee the availability of the server infrastructure even if one power supply system should fail.

Air-Conditioning

The redundant air-conditioning facility, fed with cool air through the double layer floor, guarantees an efficient cooling of the server systems. The system has been designed with an “n+n” redundancy, The cold aisle/hot aisle layout ensures a particularly high energy-efficiency.

Fire Protection

The data centre meets highest fire safety requirements:

  • Early fire detection by redundant aspiring smoke detectors (VESDA)
  • Fire alarm device with automatic alert of the fire and rescue service
  • ARGON gas fire extinguishing system, which does not cause further harm to the data processing material

Security

  • CCTV video surveillance (24/7), including recording and monitoring from the Network Operation Centre
  • Intruder alarm system with door sensors and motion detectors
  • Access control by two-factor authentication
  • Biometric locking system

Carrier

The networks of numerous carriers are available to create dedicated connections, including

  • Deutsche Telekom (MPLS termination)
  • M-NET
  • Colt
  • Versatel
  • Telia Company
  • Level(3) / CenturyLink
  • Numerous other carriers upon request

It is also possible to set up telephone lines.

Racks

  • We use racks from leading manufacturers: Rittal, DELL and Knürr.
  • The racks are available in different sizes, including a luxury variant with a depth of 120 cm and a width of 80 cm.
  • All racks are lockable and can be equipped with mechanical, electronic or biometric locks.
  • The racks are supplied with electric power by cables laid in the double layer floor. The power supply per rack is limited to 2 x 63A (AC). Normal racks are fed with 2 x 16A or 4 x 16A.
  • All racks are connected to a central patch panel with CAT7 ethernet cables. Additional fibre optic cables can be laid at all times.
  • The racks do not have glass inserts and are designed according to the cool aisle/hot aisle principle.

Cages

The single racks can be enclosed in so-called cages to further enhance the physical security. The cages are equipped with a biometric locking system.

Backup Virtual Desktops

Thevirtual desktops, housed in the annex of the data centre, are available to rent. They are connected by CAT7 ethernet cables or dark fibre cables to the IT system of the client. The virtual desktops are accessible at all times (24/7).

Best Wholesale Carrier

The data centre has been set up by TeliaSonera - one of the leading carriers in world, which is exclusively marketed by the MIVITEC GmbH Company. We are proud that our long-time partner TeliaSonera has won the “World Communication Awards”.
